Civil Justice and Recovery Project

About the Civil Justice and Recovery Project

Civil compensation for victim survivors of sexual violence can be an important part of justice and recovery.

However, victim survivors who receive compensation encounter a range of challenges that undermine the power of compensation to help them recover.

This Project seeks to improve access and outcomes for victim survivors seeking and receiving compensation.

We hope to achieve this by:

  • bringing civil lawyers, financial counsellors and financial advisers together to:

    • learn about sexual violence and the impacts of trauma

    • build relationships and referral pathways to make financial supports more accessible

  • creating resources to help victim survivors navigate their compensation options.

To our knowledge, this Project is the first of its kind in Australia.

This page will be updated as the Project progresses. If you would like to find out more about the Project, send us an email to: contactus@sasvic.org.au

The 12-month pilot is funded through the Victorian Legal Services Board Grants Program.
