Learning that someone you care about has been sexually abused can be devastating. You may experience a range of conflicting feelings.

It might be hard to stop thinking about what you have been told and many people feel helpless to know what to say or what to do that will make a difference.

For more information about how you can help, see our fact sheet about supporting someone after sexual assault.

Sexual assault services provide information, support and counselling to family members, partners and friends of individuals who have experienced sexual abuse.

If you are the parent or carer of a young person under 18 years of age who is attending a sexual assault service, you are able to receive counselling support.

Sexual assault services are free.
